A night at the Colonial Café

Something about owner Matt and his staff’s warm, welcoming atmosphere at The Colonial Café causes a predictable group of regulars, always augmented by a few first-timers or returning old friends, to converge every third Thursday of the month to enjoy a few hours together around music.  As we’re now well into fall with Thanksgiving just around the corner, this month’s open mic night, on November 16, had kind of a seasonal feel to it.  Open Mic Host Marty Taters kept people smiling, kept the musicians moving up to the stage, and made sure everyone was plugged in one way or another.  And once our friend Tony  was set up with a beer, Marty called up Sal Valentino to get the night off the ground.

My bad note:  Somehow, in the process of preparing the photos, I mistakenly dated the captions with Nov. 17 rather than Nov. 16.  I’ll pay a little closer attention next time.  In the meantime, each of you now has a nice little Friday night alibi if needed…

And last, but certainly not least, a shout-out and note of appreciation for our friend Tony.  This month Tony’s buddy Alex, who normally joins Tony at our open mics, was not able to be present.  Alex was overseas in China, enjoying some great REAL Chinese food, no doubt.  But he’ll be back, along with a few other regulars who weren’t able to make it on this particular night.  Next month’s open mic:  Thursday, December 21.  Don’t miss it.
