Big Saturday Night at Old Ironsides

What fun last Saturday night!  A falling-off-the-bone BBQ ribs dinner followed by a lineup of performers from our own Sacramento talent pool, as Marty Taters marked the last step in a recent recording process — to present his completed CD to friends and others.

I had the honor of being the first to purchase a copy of Marty’s CD, and before I was even able to play it, my eye was thoroughly impressed by the professionally-designed and just totally cool quality of the CD’s cover art.  Turns out it was the handiwork of Ms. Lindsey Dawn Tatro — Marty and Pam’s daughter.  With Pam  holding down the merch table, selling CDs, this really was a family affair.  Marty’s songs tell some real-life stories of the trials and tribulations of building a marital partnership.  If you haven’t been there yet, get a copy and listen hard — you might learn something.

The night’s lineup featured Stoffer and the Lasagna, a highly-entertaining opener for the show, followed by J.D. Valerio, Heath Williamson and Bill Mylar, Dan Gannon, $trapped for Cash (Lare and Jamison), The Cheap Bastard’s Club (Charles, Genevieve, and Jed), Kurt Michaels & Friends (Lare Crawley and Tony Galioto), Sal Valentino & The Tots, and then Marty Taters himself, joined by Donny Penny on vocals.

As an aside, Donny just moved his young family back to town from the Fairfield area to Elk Grove, I believe, so we’re hoping to see him become a regular open mic presence again.  Donny is now a formally-trained and widely-acknowledged vocalist, and he has to share that talent with others often.  Welcome back, Donny.

Johnny Favorites Presents “You Front The Band” then took the stage, and these guys are exceptional musicians who play tight arrangements!  They play a regular Sunday 8pm-midnight gig at the Torch Club, with a playlist of hundreds of songs.  They make everyone sound like a star. Show up on a Sunday night at the Torch Club and give them just one opportunity.  You’ll be immediately converted.  This ain’t just karaoke — you are fronting your own band!
