The Oak Park Brewing Company’s Thursday Night Feature host Scott Reeves put together a major crowd-pleaser on May 17. It was strictly wall-to-wall people, packed inside and out on the patio. There were no doubt some random drop-ins, but I suspect that many of the people turning out this night did so to hear their favorite local artists — including friends or family members — who were scheduled to perform.
Bachelor Paradise opened the show, and the trio immediately chilled out the audience with their laid-back vibe and lyrics telling stories that anyone could identify with. They got everyone in the mood and tuned up for the two acts to follow.

Next, Ms. Mary Sand is now the drummer in a band she’s just joined, the jazz standards-influenced Hits & Misses. This is definitely a band that fits in perfectly at weddings, country club parties, brewpubs, and other upscale places where easy-listening music lovers congregate. A lot of talent is embedded in this group, and Mary is going to fit in well.

As Hits & Misses and Occupy The Trees swapped out their music gear on the stage area, Mary Sand strapped on a guitar and provided some music with her brother Charlie for a few minutes during the transition. There are few brothers and sisters locally who could do this as well as Mary and Charlie.
Then it was time for the headliner: Occupy The Trees. These four guys are getting serious about jacking up the vibes during their show. Their music and lyrics put a smile on listener’s faces, set their feet to tapping, and their heads to bobbin’. What’s not to like about this band?

Nice job pulling this one together, Scott. It’s looking more and more like the Oak Park Brewing Company is going to be the place to be on Thursday nights in Sacramento this summer. Come early if you want to get a good seat on the patio. Tasty beer, even tastier food — see you there.
