Old Ironsides has staked out a unique position in Sacramento’s open mic community, as the intersection of live music — all genres — and other performance art which magically keeps people coming back, year after year. Nobody can really put their finger on exactly what it is, but there is some invisible force that each Wednesday evening drives a fascinating group of individuals, diverse on so many levels, and with talents and musical interests to match, to walk through Old I’s doors in search of communion with the others driven by the same force. If you’ve been there you know what I’m talking about. If not you ought to check it out.

Then, if you’ve brought your instrument and plan to sign up to play, your next stop — or maybe your first, actually — will be to make your way to Billy, your open mic host, to sign up for a time slot when Billy will hand over the stage to you for about ten minutes.
